I’ve spent the last 20+ years documenting cultural performances of the self, responses to social justice crises, and strategies for resisting systems of exclusion.

As a mixed media artist, I document by any medium necessary.

In 2020, I founded DocED to teach others how to tell stories of self-transformation in today’s digital world.

DocED is a creative communication company.

  • Thank you for extending the culture camp seminar… The vibe and attitude around the subject was so much different than our local conversations and I greatly appreciated that we were able to discuss the positive and negative aspects in a safe and supportive environment. Future corporate seminars like this should also be shared with other divisions.

  • In presenting her Mass Ink performance, Dr. Rachel N. Hastings mistakenly stated that she "cheated”—maybe because she was not performing “live.” But I want to reframe that… After feeling-into, and observations of-- this stunning digital performance and the presentness of Rachel within it, I think she did “cheat,” but in that more theatrical and performative sense of working on the stage or for the camera. She actually turned her face, her entire body, and her past-present-future selves---out to the audience, through the camera and across the digital divide, to be better seen; the complexity of Rachel’s message and personhood--without completely turning-away from the assignment became more amplified to the call. So natural. So revealing. So Rach.

  • Thanks to Dr. Rachel N. Hastings and the articles she provided us with, I was able to grasp the understanding of discrimination within today's digital realm. In the article presented to us within our breakout room, we were able to discuss how people of color were more likely to have their content limited or removed for allegedly not complying to the company's guidelines/policies.

  • During Rachel’s digital performance, Mass Ink, I felt I was viewing a "Sundance-nominated documentary short" interweaving text, images, context, installation, public education, old/new, past/present, students' engagement--a veritable kaleidoscope of your becoming, being. The urgency with which students resonated with your work and conversation afterwards was palpable and powerful.
